I've had mono for 3 weeks tomorrow. It started off where I was pretty tired and my throat hurt and swallowing was difficult. One night I couldn't sleep at all because of the pain and I had to spit everything into a bucket cause I couldn't swallow anything. The next day I went to the ER and I tested positive for mono. They told me to take motrin, rest, and drink lots of fluids. I couldn't sleep well at all because of the pains at night, I could hardly swallow anything. My tounge constantly felt like it was burning and looked disgusting. I had really painful cankers on and under my tounge as well. I used everything I could possibly use for the mono and my tounge pain. Motrin, tyneol, chloraseptic spray, drank lots of water, tried sleeping as much as I could, Robitussen, Nyquil, some other cough/throat syrup, halls menthol cough drops, random other cough drops, those red halls things that numb your throat, another kind of red things that numb your throat, benadryl, liquid benadryl, oxy-clyde or whatever for canker sores, some other thing for canker sores. My lips are now extremely swollen, my neck is, my lips feel like they're burning along with my tounge. I have cold sores/herpes all on my lips. The corners of my lips are cracked. The doctor said to mix mallox (pepto bismo) and liquid benadryl, swish it around for as long as I can, and that should coat my cold sores, but it isn't helping.. My throat still hurts and it hurts to swallow. I can't sleep well at night, but when I finally do, I droll all over the place and wake up with crust all around my mouth and in my eyes. My eyes were bloodshot for a few weeks straight when I would jsut wake up. (sorry to be gross) What can I do to ease any of this pain? The doctor gave me pills that you only take 2 of that were suppoed to help, but they haven't. I can't eat or drink anything without extreme stinging to my lips and my mouth in general. My tounge's all swollen and I can't move it at all. I can't even brush my teeth!! Talking is really difficult too. Help someone... I need to get better!
